Stand and Deliver Returns!
Lancashire’s biggest comedy club is back, starting Friday 16th September!
After the traditional summer break, 53 Degrees stand-up season is poised to return, and we’re celebrating our 10th year on the circuit with what we consider to be some of the best line-ups yet. Plenty of returning favourites, loads of new faces and some very special one off shows that will have your socks well and truly off at some of the funniest Fridays you’ll ever know.
Opening night headliner is Steve Royle, cohort of Peter Kay, Steve Coogan and Dave Spikey, and a regular headliner at The Comedy Store. An actor, writer, comedian, juggler and, for those who remember, he was Mad Edgar at Camelot Theme Park for 9 years until he retired the character as stand-up and TV commitments took over. He’ll be joined by Hal Cruttenden, Chris Martin (the funny one, not Gwyneth’s hubby) and a favourite compere of Stand & Deliver, Jim Smallman.
Other highlights in 2009 include Time Out’s ‘Stand Up Comedian Of The Year’ Paul Tonkinson on Friday 2nd October, who you’ll recognise as ‘that gangly bloke off the tele’ and is one of the most naturally funny stand-ups you’ll see. This night also brings back Kevin Dewsbury who had our regulars howling with laughter during his set last year.
Stepping up the game from our usual fortnightly shows we’ve added two extra special events this October to bring you comedy four weeks in a row. Friday 9th October we’ve invited Preston born Stand & Deliver favourite Dan Nightingale to curate his own show, hand picking his favourite comedians on the circuit today, and topping it all off with an extra length set himself. Dan’s shows always sell out at Stand & Deliver so we recommend booking your tickets for this one early.
Then on Friday 23rd October we have something completely different…
Running from 8pm into the night Underground Rebel Bingo Club are very clear about what to expect. ‘This is a party’, they say ‘If you don’t like loud music, dancing, shouting, or you are easily offended, don’t come’. Dreamt up by the makers of Big Brother, Underground Rebel Bingo Club has been taking the capital by storm, and is ‘the most anarchic and terrifying Bingo of all the Bingos there are’ it’s a show, it’s a party, but most of all, it’s ‘dirty hardcore bingo’!
More headline acts to look forward to in the first half of the season include Topping & Butch, Ivan Brackenbury, Duncan Oakley and Seymour Mace, but of course with 3 professional acts and a nationally recognised compere at every Stand & Deliver, the headline act is only the icing on the cake of a great night of comedy.
